Abstract
The article studies the scientific approaches defined in theoretical works of Russian and foreign researchers, who were engaged in a scope of competence-based approach in general and communicative competence in particular. On the basis of the analysis of a wide range of sources the author offers her own understanding of this problem applicable to the techniques of teaching of foreign languages.
