Abstract
The article investigates how ironic media criticism methods were used to assess the state of modern journalism, to denounce ideological opponents. The episode presents an important ideological-political struggle in the journalism of the 1870s Journal criticism, as the forerunner of media criticism, touched upon a wide range of problems, which worried the Russian post-reform society: from moral to economic. The subject of analysis of this article was a collision of opposite ideological and aesthetic currents.
