Abstract
The article describes prerequisites and psychological mechanisms that lead to possibility of self-development and the development of subjectivity properties characterizing his ability to be a subject of his development and his life. The essence of consciousness and related concepts of "awareness" playing a key role in mechanisms of human self-development is revealed. Particular attention is paid to the relation of development and self-development. It is noted that if the development is determined by external and moral assessment of the actions and deeds of man, the self-development is determined by self-esteem and inner conscience. The author's views on the mechanisms of human self-development in their relationship with the processes of development are illustrated by the scheme.
