Abstract
The idea of upbringing of socially oriented personality is one of the actual problems of modern education and it determines the necessity of forming social competence that reflects personality’s basic abilities and characteristics. This article represents the results reflecting theoretical researches dedicated to the basic categories of competence approach including social competence. Its subject and structure is based on the works of such authors as A.Trjapitsina, O.E.Permjakov, S.L.Spenser and M.L.Spenser, A.I.Subetto . and others. Aspects of diagnostics of
the level of social competence development are based on modern methods of psychognosis aimed at personality’s abilities measurement.
