Abstract
The life of modern man is "torn" into two parts: "public" and "private," while "public" (economy) completely subordinates "private" (personal relations). Cultural norms of "public behavior" prescribe to a person of the society of the capitalist economy to be competitive and self-oriented, in addition, they are extremely contradictory: they contain mutually exclusive requirements. Demanding permanent submission to oneself, "public" is potentially destructive both for "private life" and for the whole being of a person as a whole. The work "Culture and Neurosis" by the German-American psychologist K. Horney convincingly reveals the culturogenesis of neurosis as a typical phenomenon of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
