Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the nature of the principles of criminal law. Despite attention to this issue by many scholars, some aspects of this problem had not been elucidated fully. The authors stick to the axiological approach to the understanding of the phenomenon of "principles of criminal law". Analyzing the definition of "principles of criminal law" proposed at the present stage of development of criminal-legal science, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages, the researchers propose an original definition of the concept.
