Abstract
The article provides an insight into the problem of synthesis of a verbal text and an image as elements of different semiotic systems in literature. In this regard the author distinguishes multimodal and illustrated litarary texts. In spite of their formal resemblance the author undertakes to prove that the nature of component correlation in these two types of texts is different.
