Abstract
The article deals the first national experience of application of the Geneva Convention of 10 (22) on August 1864 to the enemy’s prisoners of war. Using the published documents, materials of the foreign periodicals and memoirs of contemporaries, the author calls the main problems faced the Russian military and medical authorities in this period; analyzes the ways of solving these problems; comes to the conclusion the Convention was carried out by the Russian side is not completely and with deviations from the requirements of the individual standards.
