Abstract
The history of the English language started with the invasion of the Germanic tribes into Britain which began in the 5th century A.D. This article discusses the historical aspects of the origin of the English language and the influence of the Germanic tribes on the formation of its Anglo-Saxon constituent. The study provides a survey of graphic, phonetic and lexical linguistic influence of the German invasion.
