Abstract
This article is devoted to history of development and formation of a phenomenon "motivation". Authors have analysed domestic and foreign theories of "motivation of the person" on the basis of which concepts requirement and motive are given. Also authors have considered methods of motivation of the personality at different stages of development of the person and society.
