ON INTERTEXTUALITY IN THE NOVEL ‘NICE WORK’ BY DAVID LODGE

Abstract
This article deals with the problem of intertextuality in the novel ‘Nice Work’ by David Lodge. The diversity of various approaches is stressed. Genette’s idea of transtextuality and Arnold’s approach are of special interest. Quotation and allusion are under consideration in terms of their artistic merits. The role of the intertextual devices in portraying the personalities of the protagonists is analyzed.
