Abstract
The article deals with private philanthropy in the Novgorod province the second half of the XIX century in the field of education and cultural heritage (the collection of donations for the construction of temples, churches and monuments). The study suggests an enormous contribution to the development of middle benefactors craft and technical training, free libraries and reading rooms, charitable scholarships, as well as collecting donations for the construction of temples, churches and monuments shows that the people of Novgorod formed valuable attitude to its historical past.
