Abstract
This article deals with the problem of implicit information in the context of translation, the related to it ideas of presuppositions (background knowledge), contextual meaning and implicature and with patterns of translation and translation methods. These problems are illustrated by the examples from G.B. Shaw ‘Serenade’ translated by V.A. Ashkenazy.
