Abstract
This article provides an overview of the evaluation category in derivation of the English language, namely its manifestation by affixation and word-composition. The study suggests that in English there is a certain group of affixes expressing either positive or negative evaluation, which in the formation of new lexical items give a derivative of the word either positive or negative evaluation. The same can be said about the components of compound words: with the presence of the composite components, one of which has the seme of any evaluation, derivative gains corresponding evaluation.

Keywords: affixation, composite, derivative, evaluation category, word-composition, word-formation
