Abstract
The article considers the main directions, trends and factors of development of pilgrimage tourism abroad which is based on the works of foreign authors’ analysis on the subject. There have been the possible methods for the study of pilgrimage tourism destinations showed as a scientific phenomenon. Particular attention is paid to the distinction between the terms of the pilgrimage and religious tourism, as well as the definition of pilgrim tourists. Examples are given in the article provide information about forming foreign pilgrimage tourism products with it established on the resource base of the region. The relevance and importance of the Internet like an advertising tool for promoting pilgrimage tourism products as well as collecting information of a statistical nature in order to identify needs and the preferences of pilgrims were examined. Based on a bibliographic study authors formulates conclusions, allowing to present the main trends in the development of pilgrimage tourism abroad.
