Abstract
The article is devoted to the criteria of selecting original English scientific and technical texts to work with students-non-linguists at the final stage of learning a foreign language. Types of reading are classified depending on text comprehension. The recommendations are given to choose a type of reading for a particular text taking into account its characteristics.
