Abstract
This article provides an overview of the scientific linguistic literature devoted to the study of family and kinship relations, held in Russia over the past decade. The study suggests that the expansion and intensification of cross-cultural communication at the interpersonal level makes the research of semantic paradigms of the "family" concept particularly relevant, since it occupies a significant place in the life of any ethnic group. The knowledge of culturally specific ideas about family relationship enhances the effectiveness of cross-cultural communication.
