Abstract
The article presents the analysis of the causes and the main features of the current demographic crisis in Russia and Vologda region. It is determined that nowadays the crisis has transferred to a new, deeper level and expressed primarily in the qualitative changes in the different population structures. It is calculated socio-economic losses (years of life lost) due to social causes of premature mortality in the working age population.
