Abstract
The article examines the role of small and medium-sized businesses in economic and social development of the city. The problems and solutions of the development of small and medium enterprises in urban areas, the average number of employees at the enterprises of small and medium businesses, as well as the structure of the distribution of categories of small and medium-sized enterprises, the structure of the average number of employees in different categories of small and medium-sized businesses in 2013 by economic activity.
The author suggests that affect the development of small and medium businesses can support the complex system of infrastructure that combines the necessary governmental, non-profit, public and private organizations, to provide the necessary support to entrepreneurs.
