Abstract
The versions of determination of sense and mechanisms of its creation which presented in the works of A.N. Leontiev and D.A. Leontiev are subjected to critical analysis in the article. The author's interpretation of the essence of sense in accordance of etymological meaning of the word "sense" as "aught" associated with a thought. Psychological mechanisms of creation of the sense are revealed based on revised definitions of "thought", “thinking”, “consciousness”, "awareness".
