Abstract
In the article the role of province in the historical process of development of Russia is studied. The problem of relationship between centre and province is also revealed. The author gives historiography review of studying of this problem. The balance between centre and province is investigated not from the point of view of «developed capital» and «low developed province», but meaning their special functions inside the entire system.
