ETYMOLOGY OF THE NAMES OF AMERICAN CITIES

Abstract
The article deals with the origin of the names of American cities. The authors show different ways of naming these toponemes, among which naming after a political figure, Indian origins, naming after the place colonists arrived from, etc. The article also says that renaming cities took place rather often in American history.
