Introduction. Learning a foreign language opens up an amazing future for everyone. Indeed, the most widely spoken language in the world is English. Today this language is spoken on every continent. In the age of technology, much of the Internet is in English. English is also at the heart of world globalization. And we all know that English should be used in work, financial institutions, tourism, transportation, airlines, education and other areas of society. Observers interpret this interest in English as the fact that knowledge of a foreign language in this era opens the door to well-paying jobs and careers of one’s choice in the future. Kyrgyz youth also understand English as a pursuit of a better life.

Given the demands of today, it is understandable that everyone in Kyrgyzstan is eager to learn English, because there is no doubt that learning English has become an important goal for citizens of our country. The high rate of changes taking place in Kyrgyzstan, increasing globalization and the inevitable involvement of Kyrgyz society in global processes and the expansion of the communication space entails a growing need for competent professionals in all spheres of human activity.

Main part (methodology, results). In Kyrgyzstan, and in the world as a whole, the role of a foreign language in the educational system has changed, and from an academic discipline it has become not only a basic element of the modern educational system, but also a means of achieving professional fulfillment of the individual [2].

For example, it is believed that a specialist who knows the language can find a well-paid job, travel without a language barrier and, in general, dramatically change their lives. This is why many people, regardless of age, choose to learn English quickly and are forced to attend various language courses. This problem would be easily solved if the method of teaching English was extended to the state language and was of great importance in the preschool, secondary and higher levels of the education system. Of course, there is a systematic education, achievements are made, but the percentage of results and results is low and the quality is low.

Here are a few reasons for the low success rate:

  1. Ignorance of the grammar rules not only of English, but also of the native language.
  2. Poor memory or difficulty remembering words when learning English.
  3. Ability to speak, but listening to English is poor. This problem often occurs in students who have not developed good listening skills.
  4. The lack of literature in the Kyrgyz language on the methodology of teaching a foreign language, therefore, teaching a foreign language for a Kyrgyz-speaking audience presents many difficulties for both teachers and students.

The new socio-economic and political situation requires the implementation in society of a language policy in the field of foreign language education aimed at satisfying both public and personal needs in relation to foreign languages [5].

The Kyrgyz High School is now in the process of modernization. It is important to note that this is connected, on the one hand, with the changes in society we have already mentioned above, and, on the other hand, with a significant lag of the Russian Higher School both from the requirements of the market and from foreign universities in terms of the quality of education provided.

The modernization of higher educational institutions implies, among other things, the inclusion of the Kyrgyz education system in the European one. This unified educational system created conditions for academic mobility of students, increasing the number of exchanges and internships, attracting foreign teachers to Kyrgyz universities, etc. [1]. In recent decades, academic mobility has been recognized as an effective tool for improving the quality of higher education. With the development of globalization, the exchange between countries in the field of science and education is rapidly growing. This contributes to the expansion and strengthening of international cooperation in this field, the formation of high international quality standards, the strengthening of innovative activity and competitiveness of national education systems [3].

Unfortunately, the problem of students’ language training is still very relevant today. It is to solve this problem that academic English courses are developed, after completing which students who wish to participate in international academic mobility programs acquire the academic skills that are necessary for success in university. In this regard, Osh State University has developed a specialized English language course at the Department of World Languages and Cultures.

The course consists of the following thematic modules:

Module 1. English for professional (academic) purposes;

Module 2. English for Academic Purposes.

The program is designed for 5 semesters in total, the first module “English for professional (academic) purposes” takes 2 semesters, since students have already a certain amount of residual knowledge of the discipline “Practical course of English”, which is required for the 1st and 2nd years of study at Osh State University. 3 semesters are allocated for the 2nd module “English for Academic Purposes”, as the course is new for students and some topics may cause some difficulties.

Conclusions and further prospects of the study. The goal of this course was defined as the formation of communicative competence in the sphere of professional communication in accordance with the requirements of the Common European Competences, taking into account the specifics of each block of training, where each new block implies the development of competences formed in the previous stage of training.

It should be noted that all course materials are of authentic character and are selected in accordance with professional interests and the level of language training of students. For a better mastering of the course, the lexical and grammatical material, presented in the form of didactic popular science articles, lecture notes, news reports etc., is accompanied by video and audio materials on the topics. Various forms of individual work as well as work in pairs and small groups are offered to students as part of this course.

Since the specifics of the course materials require at least a B1 level of language proficiency (threshold level) and their research orientation determined certain criteria for the selection of students.

One of them was the level of language proficiency of the trainees. These were the university master’s students with the level of B1 (threshold level) – B2 (post-threshold level).

In order to make the most correct selection of students for this language course as the first phase of the selection, students were asked to take a test in English, which was carried out to check the level of language training in all kinds of speech activities, namely speaking, reading, writing and listening in the course “English for Professional Purposes”.

Upon completion of the academic mobility courses, students will be able to write research-based research-based academic essays and reports; locate, select, and use reference materials from a variety of academic, technical, and industry sources, both print and electronic; understand and take notes on university lectures and use their notes effectively; participate fully in scholarly and practical discussions; present papers effectively in seminars; and use English-language journal publications relevant to their future study topics [6].

The effectiveness of the course, in our opinion, will be confirmed by the participation of students in many academic mobility programs, during which students successfully use the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities.

It should be noted that, аs the importance of English language skills increases every day, on August 4, 2021 Special and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United States, Bakyt Amanbayev met with Carol Span, Acting Director of the U.S. Peace Corps. The meeting included a comprehensive exchange of views on bilateral cooperation, more specifically Peace Corps activities in Kyrgyzstan. Bakyt Amanbayev commended the Peace Corps’ almost thirty years of work in Kyrgyzstan to teach students and teachers the English language, and made specific suggestions for their future improvement, discussing the issue of deepening English language teaching in Kyrgyz schools. During the discussion the parties agreed to work together to improve the effectiveness of the Peace Corps’ future activities in Kyrgyzstan.

This means that the formation and further development of professional communicative competence is a task that is solved at school and university. In this regard, the requirements for the level of teaching the discipline “Foreign Language” and the level of foreign language proficiency of graduates of higher educational institutions are changing.
