Abstract
The article deals with religious education in Russian schools. Training in the 18-19th centuries was based on orthodox traditions which were considered as a basis for the formation of the identity of the child. The main subject that reached these goals was the Scripture. In its teaching the wealth of experience was accumulated, the serious educational and methodical base was created.
