Abstract
In the article some special features of the problematics and poetics of the novel by J. Salinger are described, which caused its popularity among teenagers: confessional character of the writing, a teenager as the story-teller, the problem of individual search of meaning of life. The young hero does not accept the value of the post-war American society, but the stories-memoirs have a therapeutic effect: Holden realises the importance of social connections; however, they are not comfortable for him.
