IS THERE A STANDARD QUEBEC LANGUAGE?

Abstract
The article deals with political, sociological, educational, and linguistic views on actual problem of Quebec language birth, independent of metropolitan French. The influential linguists argue that there is a consensus on the issue of promoting the "standard Quebec language." Quebecers believe that language of international French metropolis must be taught as correct French language in Quebec. However, they believe that Quebec French is getting closer to European French language. Vocabulary study shows similar results. There are similar tendencies in spoken language. Thus, the birth of Quebec language is proclaimed, independent of metropolitan French.
