THE IMAGE OF THE IDEAL SCHOOL IN POLITICAL UTOPIAS OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY

Abstract
The article is devoted to the socio-political novel by M. M. Shcherbatov «Journey to the land of Ophir Mr. S., a Swedish nobleman» (1783). In the centre of the study is the image of the ideal school utopian state. Special attention is given to the methods of school teaching Ophirian people. A wide range of historical sources involved for analysis, such as Educational materials to the Commission on Codification, the Commission on the establishment of public schools (1782), pedagogical projects I.I. Betskoy.Considerable attention is paid to the Shcherbatov’s pedagogical treatises of the : «the Project of the school for merchants» (1770), «Project on national study» (1775). : «the Project of the school for merchants» (1770), «Project on national study» (1775). Based on the Shcherbatov’s works the author shows the location of the educational reforms of Catherine the Great in creating the image of an ideal school writers of the XVIIIth century.
