Abstract
This article discusses the problem of correlation of tradition and innovation in education, the peculiarities of organization of modern educational process, highlighted the causes of imbalance in the optimal ratio of traditional and innovative, justifies the importance of the competence approach as a timely mechanism for the conservation and transformation of traditions of higher education in the new innovative field.
