Abstract
In the article the dissertation of the candidate of historical sciences D. I. Rogov «Habsburg monarchy in the public opinion and military propaganda of Great Britain in 1914–1918» is analyzed. The structure and logic of the construction of the work, the validity of the conclusions, the merits of the dissertation research and its controversial points are examined. Attention is paid to the propaganda tools used by Great Britain against Austria-Hungary during the First World War.
The author of the review reports that the analyzed work of D. I. Rogov consists of an introduction, three chapters, a conclusion, a list of sources and literature used an appendix (13 statistical tables). The author of this publication notes that in this thesis the features of creating an enemy image are considered in the example of Austria-Hungary in the minds of subjects of the British Crown and other European countries. He also reports that much of the work is devoted to examining the process of evolution of the propaganda activities of the UK’s main print information bulletin, the newspaper The Times, in relation to Austria-Hungary.
At the end of his review the author comes to the conclusion that D. I. Rogov’s thesis research «The Habsburg Monarchy in Public Opinion and Military Propaganda of Great Britain in 1914–1918» contributed to the creation of an integral picture of the propaganda activity of Great Britain towards Austria-Hungary, the role of English anti-Austrian propaganda in the destruction of the Habsburgs Empire.
