Abstract
The article presents the preconditions of the origin of Russian-Mexican relations in the context of development of the Russian Northern America and their brief historical overview. It also gives a brief description of Mexico according to the edition of “the American Universal Geography”, published in the year of opening the Russian California. The article is relevant for understanding of the modern struggle for the secession of the State of California from the United States of America.
