Abstract
The article analyzes the media's role in the dissemination of political myths, which are defined as stable stereotypes with emotive connotations of political realities, which arise from an individual’s need to have some reference points in the political process. The article points out features of political myths such as the dichotomy of good and evil, ritualism, and the stereotyping of historical experience. The basic techniques of mythologizing are examined, including the substitution of facts with their interpretations, fragmentation of the information flow, and appealing to the archaic layers of human consciousness.
